In my classroom small group learning paired with independent and guided hands on activities encourages the most success. It has been proven that students learn and retain more information through play than through traditional learning strategies. With these methods paired together students will soar. Students in my classroom will be able to increase reading and math levels with the help of these colorful and interactive activities and centers (and have fun doing it)! Some of the items that my students will be benefiting from will be independent math work station kit, independent reading and phonics work station kits, leveled libraries with interesting and exciting books and sight word board games. These kits will encourage learning in a fun and colorful way and increase fluency. We have been working together as a class to create an environment that encourages students to be a part of their learning community, keep their school clean, and respect the materials we are given. Although, we do not have as many materials as a teacher would like to take reading and math skills to the next level. With these new supplies my students would not only be practicing skills needed for their entire lives but also be having fun and improving appropriate social skills while doing it! Small group center activities and play are very crucial aspects of learning. With the supplies I have chosen I can differentiate learning to all the different academic levels in my classroom, as well as present material in many different ways to increase fluency in math and reading. My hope is skills will also increase with manipulatives from wish list like pattern blocks, building blocks, puzzles and games from wish list for hands on learning. My students deserve the best and would benefit immensely if these materials were received.
