Our students work exceptionally hard to show up to school every day and navigate a system that often lacks the resources to support students with disabilities. With these items, we hope to create a sensory-friendly classroom where students of varying abilities can enter a safe and supporting space. Our students deserve to feel comfortable and capable in a space that actively works to meet each student where they are at, while simultaneously holding them to high expectations. In order for our students to meet these high expectations we have for them, the carpet, balance balls and sensory items will help lay the foundation of an accessible classroom by providing a low-sensory space with a cool down zone and independent study. We hope to give our students every chance to challenge themselves, practice autonomy, and experience joy our our space, in order to better prepare them to take charge of their own learning.
