Having an online curriculum, although great in some ways, has it’s detriments. For our final unit, my students will be readings Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet. I am hoping to buy a class set of the play, which will provide my kiddos with the chance to perform as a Readers Theater, and help them to understand and connect to the play. My focus with reading Shakespeare this year, is not for students to understand Shakespearian English, but instead to recognize the differences in text structures and plot genres. This is what has pushed me to gather adapted Romeo and Juliet books. I fully believe that if a student is introduced to Shakespeare that he or she can understand, they will learn to love the classic works and find enjoyment in reading!
