I am asking for a variety of flexible seating options, as well as some items (such as the pod) for my "coping corner". My coping corner is a safe spot for students to go when they are feeling emotionally overwhelmed, without being disruptive to others. One of my main goals as a special educator is to teach skills that will be applicable to every day life. One of these skills is coping through frustrating situations without hurting yourself or hurting others. I am always encouraging my students to use the coping corner to take a break and "reset" when needed. The pod will be a wonderful addition to our coping corner, by providing deep pressure and a feeling of security, that will in turn allow my students to rejoin the class calm and ready to learn. Flexible seating allows for positive learning experiences for students who struggle with inattention, hyperactivity, and defiance. Since I do not have desks in my classroom, currently my classroom is arranged in stations with tables that have differing heights. There is a standing table, "regular tables" and a floor table, where students can sit or kneel and work. I would like to add more flexible options to my flexible classroom! By providing flexible seating, my students will be able to enjoy learning in a safe and comfortable environment. The stools and bouncy chairs will allow for current and future students to work more productively, while providing seating that allows them to get their wiggles out. My classroom is tile, so the rug will be a comfortable addition for students who prefer to work sitting or kneeling on the floor. Right now we only have regular classroom chairs, but by providing more seating options, my student productivity will increase and so will their love of learning!
