More than 95% of my students come from low-income families, and many will be the first in their family to graduate from high school and/or enroll in college. As part of the Humanities Academy, they take interdisciplinary courses designed to show the interaction between literature and the history surrounding it. They learn to ask questions about our past, and apply them to discussing the present and future.
