I teach 99 eighth graders in a suburban NJ public school. In a reading interest survey given last month, 18 students admitted they enjoy reading. The rest indicated they either do not like reading or have difficulty finding books. But both my avid and "dormant" readers responded positively to a recent class in which we viewed nearly four dozen video trailers for new books (see photo). Student interest shot way up, with students recording an average of 8-9 new titles on their "To Read Next" lists. An excitement for reading is beginning to take hold!
