As a teacher it is foremost in my mind to help my students become lifelong learners. I believe that developing the habit and taste for reading is the best way of doing that. There is a book for every person! Students in my room have wide-ranging interests and ability to understand Spanish. Motivation is key when it comes to learning! A classroom library with Spanish books appeals to my students because they can choose what suits them best. A selection of books for them to enjoy also tells them that I take them and their preferences seriously. We have a Spanish text book that provides texts for us to read and work on together, but these are not necessarily high interest. It is so important when learning a new language to get a lot of comprehensible input, through reading and hearing the language used authentically. Having a selection of reading materials for independent reading will motivate my students and help their Spanish language development!
