The hominid skulls are a tool for students to become engaged in a worthwhile lesson on natural selection. These skulls will take the lesson to life by allowing students to make 3D measurements, take detailed observations, and understand how we have evolved into many species over millions of years, from a common ancestor. Students will identify patterns in the fossil record, make predictions, graph data, and generate quantitative and qualitative observations using the hominid skulls. These skills are foundational to science, but also are applicable for career eers in engineering, data analysis, and more. Students can carry these skills with them as they progress through high school and beyond. The best part about this project is that the hominid skulls will not only be available for my 8th grade students, but for the entire 8th grade class for many years to come. The skulls are a reusable resource that will benefit many more than a single group of students.
