Of the nations largest cities, Philadelphia ranks the highest among poverty rates, with an astonishing 26% of residents living below the poverty level. The area in which I work, Logan, has among the lowest median household income of all the sections in Philly. Because funding for education here is largely based on property taxes, poverty has extreme implications for school conditions and resources. As a product of the Philadelphia School District and a teacher here now many years later, I am truly invested in my students and ensuring that they have the resources necessary for success in school and in life.
