These resources will be used in my classroom as independent practice centers, and teacher-led small groups. In first grade, students are still mastering their letters and letter sounds recognition, while also learning many new sight words, vowel teams, consonant digraphs, consonant blends, etc. They are also mastering their number sense and learning to count in sequential order, beginning at any number between 1 and 120. In science and social studies, students must learn to use the best cognitive thinking practices in order to make a connection to what they are learning and the world around them. I believe the right centers will help students continue to master the content they need from kindergarten and build on that content knowledge in order to master the new content they will learn in the first grade.
