Students sometimes need an outlet to explore situations that happen in our world. Reading creates a unique experience for every student. Oftentimes, books and the characters found within them can help explain what is going on in our world in a way that makes sense to them. When preparing my classroom library for the upcoming school year, I realized the lack of diverse books that I own. I want my students to have experiences with rich texts that allow them to explore new and diverse cultures. This project will positively impact my students by giving them the opportunity to experience all that picture books have to offer. It will spark some tough conversations that are necessary for my students to learn and grow.
