Students in my first grade classroom in California come from a diverse background. These students have reading levels ranging from pre-kindergarten through third grade. The students want to find books they can read and absolutely LOVE finding books at their "just right level." These students have been inspired by an adult community to love reading, and desperately want to be able to find books that they can read. The problem is that these just right books have been placed on bookshelves that do not allow for them to have easy access. The students currently look through crowded bins that have been placed on bookshelves that are taller than they are. Often, students grab the first couple of books they can reach or find and pretend to read. However, they are tired of pretending they can read those books, and need to have the books placed on furniture that helps them find and put away these books.
