The band students at my middle school are a diverse group of students who share a common love of making music. Many of my students come from families with very little means. My school does an incredible job providing for whole families of our students, sending home food for the weekends, providing clothing, school and home supplies, etc. Consequently, we have a fabulous feeling that we are a family of learners at our school. It is important that my students perform community service so they are more aware of the world outside of the walls of the school, and so they can use their musical skills to give back.
