The books on this list have all been carefully selected to represent a variety of topics, genres and abilities. Students are given opportunities to read the books on this list both at school and at home. The students are all eager to read all 60 books! Unfortunately, when the pandemic started, many of these books were brought home and since students did not return to school that year, our Battle of the Books library has been depleted. The Battle of the Books has been a tradition in my school for over 20 years and is a much anticipated event in the 4th Grade. Students are given a list of 60 books and are challenged to read as many of them as possible in 3 months. After reading each book, students respond by completing a project or a story map. At the end of 3 months, there is a grade level competition in which students demonstrate their knowledge of each book.
