For the past 18 months, students have attended class from their bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, and sometimes cars. They were able to choose where and how they learned. I want to continue to give them choices. Adding these choices is a student-centered approach to teaching and learning to improve student engagement, community, and decision-making skills. Choice, collaboration, flexibility, and comfort is what I want to foster for all of my learners. Sit or stand, it's their choice with the adjustable laptop desk stands where students can put them on top of a long table and stand or they can lower it and sit on the floor. Yoga balls with stands allow cushion and motion for that fidgety student. Cushion chairs and bean bag chairs are mobile and can turn any spot in the classroom into a learning space. It is important to create a welcoming, comfortable, and flexible learning environment. The classroom environment should also mirror what students will encounter in their future careers and foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. My goal is to offer my learners as many opportunities as possible to take control of their learning journey. This is a big piece of that journey!
