My speech therapy students are so tired of using blank worksheets to learn their speech sounds and pragmatic language and frankly SO AM I! Because of the limited resources I currently have in my speech room, I'm using printed speech therapy worksheets for all of my students. This makes speech therapy difficult for kids to stay engaged and is at times, quite boring. I would really love to get some activities and reading materials that I can use to engage my kidos and make this time more exciting!
These games and books will help me build on therapy lessons I already have and make therapy a more enriching experience for all my students.
The games I have chosen were picked specifically to target pragmatic language skills for students with delays in these areas. Being able to take turns, ask and answer questions, and requesting items and information from peers during a fun game activity will help them learn and generalize these skills outside of the speech room!
The books selected all target different speech sounds. Reading literature in the speech room models correct production for each student and also allows me to build lessons from these books while targeting the sounds they have difficulty with. That's much more engaging than staring at a list of words to repeat over and over... don't you think?
