My students will have daily opportunities to use iPads to access ST Math, a school-wide conceptual math skills program. This program allows students to manipulate and explore current math concepts through games and puzzles without the obstacles of language-based learning. In first grade, students will use iPads to access ST Math and reinforce learning objectives aligned with Common Core State Standards in addition and subtraction, place value, comparing numbers, and measurement concepts. Technology allows teachers to differentiate class learning so that all students can individually be challenged and reinforced. My students can also use iPads every day to work hard on reading comprehension activities and independent practice with standards taught by teachers. Please help us chip away at the digital divide that exists in our classrooms for young students of color and students living in homes without technology or internet access. Many students in our classroom do not have access to technology outside of school. Having technology in our classroom will provide students with more opportunities to access math concepts and skills throughout the day! It will also allow both teachers in the room to effectively maximize learning time with technology-based learning centers and plan small-group interventions to target specific skills that students need. Using our ST Math program, students can track individual progress across math concepts while games gradually become more challenging and teachers can monitor understandings with informative data from the ST Math program. While we have some technology available to our students at school, we do not currently have enough for all students to have equitable access each day. With your help, we can work to remove barriers that keep kids from learning technological skills and experiencing the digital world in school.
