My students are a lovable group of 30 fifth graders from a title one school. Almost all of our students are in the free lunch program. Most of them do not have computers at home, let alone working printers or Internet. School is the place where life's possibilities are presented. Throughout the day, students take turns using the single outdated computer available in the classroom. When we had a working printer, and, when I could afford ink, students vied for the privilege of word processing their work and printing it out. The students and I tried out hands at refilling old cartridges with little success, and the ink type we needed for the old printer is expensive yet does not last very long. My students delight with oooh's and ahhhh's when they are able to view both their own work and the work of their peers. Their collective response is evidenced in their faces and demeanor. They are proud.
