After almost 20 years of teaching ELA or math, I am finally getting to get back to my creative side. I recently added art to my teaching license and will be teaching that in the 2019-2020 school year. I have been working on planning lessons and projects for my 7th and 8th grade classes ever since I found out what I will be teaching and thinking about how I can make art class productive and rewarding for my students.
I want my students to have the opportunity to experience art and many different mediums and having easels will allow them to do so more effectively. Students will be able to have an individual space to work on drawing, with watercolor and acrylic painting, with oil pastels, colored pencils, and markers, and on fiber art. Having easels in the classroom add an element of professionalism for the students as well. Art class is no longer just fun time or a break from "real" classes like it might be seen in elementary school. Art class has validity and can help prepare students for post-secondary study and their chosen careers and I want to be able to introduce students to all the ways art is used in many professions.
