Pre-K students learn about their world through the use of their five senses. During their investigation of sensory play materials in the sand and water table, my students are learning how to express themselves, building their vocabulary, and working together with their classmates. We dig for treasure on Pirate Day. We plant flowers during the spring time. We even bring our sensory table outside for Water Play Day. Our previous sensory table was well loved and well used, but unfortunately it didn't survive the last school year. Each theme we have during the year has a complementary sensory component. This new table will make it easier and more effective to incorporate our sensory activities this year. The explorations we do through the use of our sensory table will help us meet the Pre-K environmental science standards.
