Earlier this year my students did a project on different countries around the world. Many of the countries chosen were countries that their families migrated from and the interest was there, but doing the research in books and articles that I printed did not allow them to self-direct their learning. Through utilizing Chromebooks to research information about their animal habitat science project, we are placing a world of information at their fingertips and giving them autonomy. Students will be able to read more than three articles to help them learn how to synthesize information about the animal's characteristics and their habitats. I am excited to have them use epic.com which gives web users thousands of books at their fingertips for free. Many are books that have an audio component so that all readers on the team, no matter their reading level, will feel like an important contribution to the team. We will also be setting up Khan Academy accounts to practice Math fluency! Will you help support our budding mathematicians and scientists?
