I love teaching ESL students! They hold such a high regard for learning because every movement throughout the building can be a learning experience for these special kids. Their families, though humble, teach the values of obtaining an education, listening to the teacher, following rules, and absorbing every morsel of new knowledge. Often times, their parents can't wait to hear what they've learned because their own education was most likely cut short due to hardship. These kids deserve every opportunity to meet goals and standards that are set by the State for students that have the advantages they do not have. They are academically measured against other groups who have the advantage of resources that their families cannot provide. Sadly, our classroom resources are limited and lack manipulatives and resources for student-centered learning.
