My name is Janet Akerele and I personally cannot begin to express how much I ADORE what I do. I teach in Bushwick out in Brooklyn, NY and I count myself privileged to teach in such a gold mine. Many people look at the neighborhood I serve as a lost hope or potential land for marketing purposes, but I see it as a hidden nook of fiery potential. My classroom population consists of Hispanic and African American children who yearn to learn. My aim is to expose my kids to as many opportunities within and outside of my classroom. I want to raise community changing global ambassadors in 10 months! Like all kids, my scholars are entitled to the realization that their power as individuals is not capped away in adulthood! I am committed to this work that not only endures long nights and caffeine withdrawals, but is relentlessly FIGHTING ignorance of greatness. Every resource is greatly appreciated.
