Freak the Mighty is about acceptance and community, and that’s what I want to build with my students. My students do not get the opportunity to hold actual books in their hands and learn from all the lessons presented in novels. Although short stories are amazing tools in the classroom, there is nothing like opening a book and experiencing an entirely new world. Through this project, students who would not otherwise pick up a book, will get the opportunity to delve into the experiences of Freak the Mighty and even make connections to their own lives outside of the four walls of our classroom.

About my class
