In my kindergarten classroom, students engage in literacy, math, social studies, art, and science learning stations (centers) to provide a guided, yet independent, hands-on approach to learning. As they work in stations, they learn to work independently as well as cooperatively within a small group. This also allows for problem solving with peers. Stations in my classroom consist of; a library where students can read books of their choice independently or listen to stories on CD to foster the love of reading and the importance of literacy. Building Station; where they can build houses, cities, and towns.; Art station, which allows children to visually express themselves. Math Station, where students can play addition and subtraction games, sort, build sets, make numbers with play dough, etc...The Writing Station, where students can write and illustrate books about their favorite topics; Dramatic Play Station, which promotes social interaction, role exploration, abstract thinking, problem solving skills, and enhances a child's social and emotional development; Computer Station, where students engage in interactive math and reading games. My wish is to provide my students with more opportunities to learn while having fun! I would like to transform my classroom into a positive, engaging space full of fun opportunities that will provide a stable academic and social emotional foundation.
