LEGO learning tools are a fantastic way to inspire middle school students by combining building elements and coding language to engage students to think critically and solve complex problems, regardless of their learning level. This project will be an in-school, learning activity that is designed to help my diverse group of students learn the essential STEM and 21st century skills necessary to become the innovative minds of tomorrow. Students will use the engineering design cycle to “Ask” what is the problem they are trying to solve and the limitations they may face. Next, students will brainstorm and research LEGO design solutions in the “Imagine” step. Students will then generate a “Plan” to design, code, and engineer their project. Students next “Create”their building project and “Improve” the prototype and debug the coding before arriving at their final project creation.
