One of the most important ways to promote student engagement and motivation is through making the classroom a comfrotabIe, safe, and encouraging learning environment. I strive to make sure my students become inspired to learn and attend school. This year my focus is enhancing the physical set up of my classroom. As adults, we all have our favorite spaces in which we like to create, be productive, and get work done. For many of us, that space is not a desk and a chair. For example, I work best on my kitchen table, or on the couch. During my teaching career, I have had my students sit in desks like most conventional classrooms. However, last year I attempted to have every student sit on a yoga ball. Most students were excited and motivated, while others preferred more options. This year, I can't help but imagine the possibility of multiple options for optimum learning through flexible seating.
