  • Flexible Seating: Giving Students a Choice in How They Learn!

    Funded Sep 12, 2017

Thank you again for your kindness and thoughtfulness. My students are truly enjoying the flexible seating in our classroom. In their thank-you letters, several students expressed that they prefer the flexible seating over traditional for a variety of reasons. A common reason was because they feel that they can concentrate better when they are comfortable.

When the students first saw our classroom following the transformation, they were ecstatic! They were totally surprised and overwhelmed with excitement. What I like most about our new seating is that the students take good care of all of things in our classroom.

Thank you again for your donation- it will go a long way!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wainwright

  • Listening to Learn!

    Funded Oct 2, 2014

My students were very excited the day our CD players arrived. They had been asking for them everyday once I told them the project had been funded. I have several audio books that were part of a project that was funded last year. Since I looped with my students and am now teaching 3rd grade, they were looking forward to exploring these books this year. To say the excitement was high the day I set up our listening center would be an understatement!

I use the CD players in our listening center everyday during our reading workshop time. Students take turns cycling through this center. In the future, students will have the opportunity to record themselves reading their favorite book. These recordings will then be placed in the listening center as well.

This resource has boosted my student-learning and engagement because I now have another center in my center rotations during reading workshop that keeps my students engaged and eager to participate. This is important because a big part of reading workshop is based on the students' ability to work independently. The students look forward to this center and are on task the entire time.

Thank you again for your generosity, it is deeply appreciated.”

    Ms. Wainwright

  • Literacy and Learning Extravaganza!

    Funded Mar 27, 2014

My students were very excited to receive the games, books, and listening center. It added a great deal of variety to our literacy block. By having a great selection of word study games, new books and a listening center, my students can move independently through their activities and they never complain about being finished too early. In fact, if we could extend the literacy block, they would be super happy. They truly enjoy learning. My students have several opportunities to practice important skills. By having so many new center games, students can work with each other or independently. I love how having new activities allows me to work with small groups more often.

Even though they are playing games that are helping them with foundational skills, my students feel like they are "playing" -definitely a win/win!!

Thank you again for your generosity.”

  • Books for Dinner!

    Funded Mar 16, 2014

Thanks for your friendly donations! The day our books arrived, we had to stop everything we were doing so that we could go through them all and add them to our library! My students were beyond excited. Since then, they have been reading more each day. All of my students have a variety of books to read- they especially have more of a selection on diverse reading levels. They enjoy choosing different types of books. Another good thing is, I have more books to choose from when using high interest text to teach important literacy skills. I've been told by several of my student's parents that their child is reading more at home and that was my ultimate goal.

I love children's books and I was just as happy as the students when we received our delivery. A little bit can go a long way. Thanks again for your generosity!”

  • Organization Station: A Functional Lending Library

    Funded Mar 18, 2014

Thank you so much for your friendly contribution. My students were very happy to see the large bean bags when they arrived in our classroom. They were also very intrigued with the "spinning" book shelf. They enjoyed unpacking the materials and helped me to set them up. They wouldn't have it any other way. It was actually great that they helped set it up because they immediately started taking ownership over the materials. I was able to use these items to motivate and to continue to encourage good behavior. Students received a quick lesson on how to handle our new furniture and they are sure to remind each other when someone forgets. These materials have helped me tremendously. I am able to easily access all of the chapter books in my classroom. Students have an easier time finding something that interests them. And, they have no problem returning items back to their correct location.

My students continue to enjoy reading. They are taking more books home and actually beg me to read longer than our designated 15-20 minutes. I am happy that I was able to receive these items thanks to your donation. It has truly impacted student engagement and involvement!”

  • iTech(nology)+iRead=iLearn

    Funded Feb 24, 2014

When the iPads came my students were very surprised and extremely happy! We talked about the possibility of receiving the iPads back in November when I initially posted the project. At first my students were very excited and would ask about the status of our project almost daily. As time went by, they would ask less and less. Once the project was funded i couldn't wait to tell them. When I shared that we were going to receive them, they started jumping up and down, cheering and clapping!

Once the iPads came, I immediately created a schedule for the students so that everyone can have a chance to use them 2 or more times throughout the week. The students shared with me apps they were interested in downloading. I downloaded several and gave everyone two weeks to explore. I then deleted most of them and bought the ones that I felt were most helpful. The great thing is, I found several apps that I am able to use with students who need me to provide support and reinforcement with important math and reading skills. My students use the iPads during our center time. I also have some students use the iPads during morning activity and/or during our math workshop. I have an ELL student who has had the opportunity to work on reading and spelling words using basic phonics skills.

This project has boosted my ability to reach my students by helping me to provide additional academic support. The iPads have served as an incentive for my students as well. They know that in order to get on the iPads, they must display appropriate behavior. Sometimes, when a student finishes an activity early, I allow them free time on the iPads to visit science websites to learn more about animals.

I love providing these opportunities to my students. I also appreciate having some form of technology available to my students throughout the day.

    Thanks again for your generosity.”

  • Powerful Portfolios

    Funded Mar 24, 2012

I would like to thank you for your generous contribution to our proposed project: Powerful Portfolios! My students have had the opportunity to create very professional looking portfolios using the binders and protector sheets you donated to our class. My students now have an organized and very durable place to keep all of their graded assessments. By using the binders, my students now feel more responsible and accountable for their work! In addition, my students now have scheduled periods where they can review and discuss their portfolios. Even though we use our portfolios often, I don't have to worry about their work getting damaged because we have the binders and sheet protectors to to protect them. Thank you again, we greatly appreciate it : )”
