The use of technology is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially when researching careers. Using project-based learning, students develop various projects like editing a homemade movie, designing a tiny house on Chief Architect, and learning finance skills on EverFi. The HP laptops our school have provided allow the students to explore various careers, as well as provide an easy place for them to turn in their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the laptops frequently crash due to not being able to handle professional software. When something goes awry, students know that they must use coping skills to stay calm, raise their hand to get a new computer, share with a peer, or the last choice—work on a paper project reserved for those on technology restriction. My students are here at KCA because they have behavioral and/or neurological issues. Most can't handle the disappointment of having to start over, ultimately giving up on the project, or leaving school for the day. By having Microsoft Surface laptops, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning! By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve student participation, you will ultimately help to increase their academic success. Students will be able to simply focus on their projects, and not worry about another thing going wrong in their day. Plus in this technology-savvy world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as boost their resume!
