My students are increasingly questioning and learning about our country and the world around them. Hate crime reports are increasing as heated racial, religious and sexual orientation rhetoric and actions have come to dominate the daily news. As we process these reports in the classroom, it's becoming much more important to continue the discussions and problem solve ways to combat hate in our communities. This project will help create effect conversation and heightened awareness in our school community around hate rhetoric, actions, and crimes. Inviting a Holocaust survivor to take about their experiences will embed the reality of such actions. My students will learn the cause and effect of hate crimes and the consequences of such actions.
