We are currently a H.O.T. school which means we emphasize commitment to child centered, experiential, arts integrated teaching and learning, weaving best practices in arts in education with present-day needs and experiences of urban, suburban, and rural school communities. This year we have started something so exciting called Genius Hour. It is a special time once a week, where students are encouraged to be creative and explore any topic of their choice. Each student creates one essential question that they will work to solve. Some example projects could be building a computer game, learning code, designing arcade games, creating a solar powered flashlight for people who don't have enough money to keep house lights on. For this hour to reach its full potential my students need the access to technology to research. These Chromebooks can be used throughout the school day as well. Chromebooks will give my students the opportunity to master their typing skills in writing, access to articles online for literacy, and bring in technology into our math curriculum.
