Since school is very unknown due to our national pandemic, students may either be in school or at home working away at their computers. Students, no matter where they will be learning, will need to have a creative outlet to help relieve some of their stress and worries. Art is great for students to express their feelings and it acts as a therapeutic way to help them get through each day! As teachers, we were given a lot of guidelines to reopen our schools safely for those students who will be attending in person. For example, we have to space out our tables and desks 6 feet apart, everyone must wear face masks, and sharing supplies and passing out paper is no longer available to help prevent the spread of germs. The last part is crucial to an art classroom. Without being able to share art supplies or pass out paper, the art classroom becomes very challenging. We have already established at my school that students will bring their own "Art Kits," which consists of their own personal crayons, markers, pencils, etc. However, no passing out paper is where this project comes into play. I would love to provide every student with a 120-page sketchbook for them to bring to and from their general classroom. This will help each student create art in their own space without myself or other students having to pass out paper. This sketchbook also provides students who are working virtually from home the ability to create their artwork if they do not have access to the paper. All in all, this is a win for the art world and the art classroom and I thank you very much for donating to keep the art alive during this crazy time!!
