My class will meet in person this fall under specific guidelines of meeting and maintaining social distancing. With this in mind it would be beneficial for my math class to have their own hands-on manipulatives. The students would be engaged in hours of high active learning with the items. When teaching math, it is important to ensure all types of learners are covered from kinesthetic, visual to auditory. Therefore, a class teaching set of base ten hands-on kit, fraction hands-on kit, magnetic bills, money hands-on teaching kit, and money manipulatives would be purchased. Here are some examples of how the tools will be an asset for my class; the teaching set of base ten hands-on kit would be a delight for the students to take pleasure in learning the number concept, place value, operations and more. The blocks can be manipulated in different ways to express numbers and patterns. With the fractions hands-on kit, it will be a delight to demonstrate and reinforce the fraction concepts by giving the students a pack of the fraction manipulatives to review concepts. Furthermore, the magnetic bills and money hands-on teaching kit will assist the students in adding combining and comparing money value. During this time of Covid-19 each student will need to have their own activities to ensure safety while learning. With the purchase of the manipulatives their safety and active learning will be ensured.
