For decades, the traditional classroom has been organized in a face-forward orientation, with students observing and absorbing the teacher's directions. However, times have changed and the pedagogy continues to be challenged and shifted to increase student responsibility and control for their own learning. One option for change is seating choice for our students. "Students do well if they can," Dr. Ross Greene. Seat choice is a small but powerful opportunity for students to gain a sense of self and control in the classroom community, giving students a safe space to work in the classroom. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Flexible seating allows students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength.
