There is a global demand for computer engineers, system administrators, technology coordinators, data scientists, and other STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics) professions. Many graduates lack skills and in areas or fields in which they need to become technically proficient in or to perform a task with the computers that help students “develop the higher-order skills for critical thinking, analysis, and scientific inquiry through active engagement participation, frequent interaction, and connection to real-world contexts.” It is especially important to give the students in low social-economic backgrounds to experience utilizing technology to instill effective work habits early on in a student's academic career. With these five Chromebooks, students will be able to do research on topics, use interactive apps and games to learn to code, collect data, conduct science investigations, take virtual field trips and simulate real-world experience such as deep-sea diving or climbing a mountain.
