Textbooks and worksheets are boring. As a math teacher, many of my lesson plans involve some game one way or another. These requested materials will support students with many needs and multiple levels of learning. Some students need extra support than others; hands-on material to learn even for the basic skills. As a new teacher with a blank canvas (classroom), I want my room and space welcoming and pleasant for the children to wanting to learn. These materials are an outcome to my vision of a classroom I wish I had when I was a student. Many of my lessons, I use stories (ex. pizza story to learn fractions, cookie recipe to understand proportion, money for decimals) and props for students to see in the real world for them to connect to. These materials support my lessons of the use of props and connections to everyday life. Other materials are used for students to understand that the classroom they are in is a safe space and a place to have a reset button if they are not in a headspace to learn. Even at such a young age, these students have gone through a lot due to the pandemic and even just their everyday life at their home. We do not know where they're coming from. My goal for the use of these materials is to support emotional learning and reset as well as a fun learning environment for all diverse learners.
