My partner teacher and I are both new to our school this year. We are excited to collaborate, organize and develop our classroom libraries together. As we have looked through our current book selection, we have discovered that our libraries are in need of more early reader titles. These picture books and books with simple text help all learners to envision themselves as readers. During our book shopping time, these books will provide our learners with the confidence that they can read independently. Books at the earliest reading levels, (levels A and B) are highly controlled in the amount and type of words on each page. These books give learners an opportunity to see themselves as readers. This is a critical shift that happens in kindergarten, and can be nurtured successfully when the right type of books are available.
