Prekindergarten students often have poor fine motor skills. As a public school teacher who is Early Childhood American Montessori Society certified and who have used Montessori materials with 3-6 years old students for over 5 years, I have seen how powerful a movable alphabet can be. These letters provide visual and tactile reinforcement that helps students focus on letter sounds and how to construct words and sentences without worrying about their fine motor skills.
Movable alphabet letters enable students to focus on what they want to say and spell instead of worrying about how to make the letters, allowing students with poor fine motor skills to be able to show off their spelling and writing abilities, even if they are unable to clearly write letters. I feel that the tactile letters help students stay focused on their work and instill a sense of pride as students are able to spell and read words they didn't think they would be able to. In the past, this work was one of my students' favorite things to show parents during open houses and special events. Please help me give my current students this amazing learning opportunity!
