Descriptors such as curious, inspired and tenacious describe the children I teach! Our school district is the largest in the state of Wisconsin with 82% of our families being economically disadvantaged. Following our 12+ month virtual instruction, our students returned to in-person learning. The pandemic and trauma has and continues to impact students both in the classroom as well as in their daily lives outside of school. In order to provide the most effective mentorship, I believe that it is necessary to learn and implement social-emotional and trauma-based learning strategies that create the conditions for safe learning.
