As an ESL teacher serving two schools, I go into several different classrooms and collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists. I serve students who have IEPs and English as their second language. The students range from kindergarteners through grade 12+. I realize that this is a unique position to be in and it has its challenges, but it is extremely rewarding. Part of the joy and challenge of the job, is that each student requires something different. Some students are non-verbal, others have hearing or vision impairments, and many have mobility issues. I try to get to know the student and figure out how I can best support them. Typically, it means that the student will increase their communication level when they have specialized hands-on learning tools. With your support, we can get those tools in the hands of the students.
