As an educator, one of my main goals is working every day to help my students become mindful, caring citizens who make a difference in their community. As a teacher, I have a responsibility to love and teach love and understanding and empathy in all circumstances.
It is so incredibly important for my students to see themselves represented through diverse literature, and I would love to add to my classroom library so we can share some of these books together. I am a second year teacher with a very limited classroom library. Teaching Science and Social Studies through different diverse and inclusive perspectives gives my students a deeper understanding of the roles every single person can play in making a difference and changing the world, no matter if they look like them or not. We will use these amazing stories as read alouds, adding diverse and unique perspectives to our curriculum and diving further into differences and dynamics throughout history. These books will also be displayed in our classroom library, so that every student has the opportunity to experience rich and diverse literature during free reading time.
