My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a highly transient school with high English Language Learners and a high poverty rate. All my second grade students are expected to add and subtract fluently. They have the high expectation to add and subtract three digit numbers with regrouping. They have a drive and passion for math. However, many do not have the support at home due to a variety of reasons including parents working to support their families or not being fluent in English.
