In kindergarten it is important to build foundational skills that the children can carry throughout their educational journey. Having a classroom library and listening center help students gain confidence and daily practice through the use of books. The listening center gives the students the opportunity to listen as someone reads to them while they follow along. This helps the students with basic foundational reading skills such as, print and book awareness, reading left to right, letter and word recognition. This gives all students the opportunity to enjoy the library and listening center and work with books that are developmentally appropriate for their age.
