While reading at home, we curl up in our favorite spot - cozy with a cup of coffee, a blanket, and the perfect lighting. Encouraging reading in the classroom is more than handing a student a book, it's about setting them up for success. Part of that is offering them a cozy, comfortable environment where they can relax, read, think critically, and have a quiet space. Our Classroom Cozy Corner will be open to all students - where reading, learning, writing, and exploring will be at their disposal. The purpose of this project is to create the same comfy space we have at home in the classroom. The materials that I chose will allow me to build up our current cozy corner. The bean bag chairs will allow my students who like to sit on the floor and read or write to be able to do so comfortably. The rocking saucers will allow my students with the wiggles the ability to rock, read, and develop focus. These rocking saucers are also perfect for students who have attention deficit disorder. The adhesive wallpaper, new bookshelves, and carpet will give the cozy corner a soft, welcoming look and encourage students to use it to their advantage during independent learning.
