In order to close the learning gaps created by the pandemic, we have focused on reading interventions. One thing our students look forward to during intervention/extension time is Book Club, where they have the opportunity to facilitate their own learning and engage in discussions about novels with peers. Although we encourage autonomy by having students choose their books, our current levelled library lacks diverse characters and stories about our modern world. These books will help students expand their world view and step into somebody else's shoes. This book list has been created with my student's interests and academic needs in mind. We know that engaging and thought-provoking texts can draw in readers, no matter their ability level. Additionally, these books will provide a challenge for students in all levels of reading and help close the gap for those who are behind.
