Since most of my students are from low income homes, they are not exposed to literature. When the year starts, most of my students are not reading yet. A listening center would help students discover books and capture their imaginations since most of my students are not exposed to written text at home. Our school is small with only about 400 students total. The population in our school is mixed. Our school is in an old building with long hallways and not a lot of resources. Because of the low income neighborhood, our classroom lack many supplies but as teachers we do not allow it to lower our expectations of our students. Because many students have a hard family life I try to make the school experience enjoyable. I try to involve parents in my class which has made my teaching more interactive.
