My students come from very difficult backgrounds. They are from a high poverty, high crime area. More than half of my students are English learners. Despite these circumstances, it is the mission of our school to change our community through education, by providing preschool and elementary school academic services, resulting in grade appropriate achievement, cultural enrichment, and positive character. Although my students face the challenging achievement gap, I am blown away by their positivity and effort on a daily basis. We talk about college frequently, and all of my students have the expectation that they can and will go to college. They put forth so much effort in their studies, but they also have a wonderful sense of humor. Not a day goes by that my students do not make me laugh!
