I teach in a multigrade classroom. At times, it is challenging to create lessons based on the different grade level standards. I want to provide my students with exciting and engaging lessons and meet each grade level standard. One way to do this is design lessons based on how my students learn best. They learn best when activities are hands on and they develop meaningful connections to the topics they are learning. The “Itsy Bitsy Spider Watered the Class Plant” project will provide the meaningful connection my students need to learn. Based on one educational standard, my students are required to make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. Adding an animal habitat to the classroom and growing plants will be a great hands-on way for my students to make these observations.
