Our classroom has a single carpet which is currently residing in our classroom library to create a welcoming reading environment during our language arts block. However, we desperately need a carpet large enough to use during whole group instruction- especially for when I am reading all of my students math and science stories and demonstrating how to use our daily math manipulatives. This carpet will help them retain their number sense because they will be able to make a daily, deep connection between the numerals and the number of objects they actually correspond to with the carpets' ten-frames up to 20. Additionally, I plan on using this carpet as a daily, independent math center. I envision my students using it to practice their simple addition, trace number forms, and work on counting.
