Having this class set of novels will impact my students' learning dramatically. Many of my students are struggling or reluctant readers who need access to rigorous and engaging text to continue to grow their skills. This is essential for them as they strive to meet their graduation requirements by retaking the Reading FSA. This class set of Fahrenheit 451 will provide rich examples of literary techniques to analyze. I will also be able to make several meaningful connections to informational pieces. My students have been deeply engaged in dystopian lit we have read so far, but need access to longer texts to continue to build their endurance as readers. The themes of the novel are relevant to current events, which will help my students to develop as critical thinkers and informed citizens. This will help them to be college and career ready! Reading and analyzing Fahrenheit 451 will not only prepare my students to meet their graduation requirements but to discover the joy of reading at the same time! I'm also requesting an audio version of the novel to help engage my struggling readers. This is incredibly important as it models fluent reading as we work through the text in class. I serve many students who are English Language Learners, so this is an invaluable resource. To best support my ELL students, I need 3 copies of the text in Spanish to help my students who may benefit from reading targeted passages in their native language before rereading and analyzing it in English. It is my goal for all of my students to not only grow their knowledge and skills, but their confidence too!
